North American Beneficial Nematodes

 The Advantage

  • Live host raised – “In vivo”.
  • No carrying agent.
  • Energy reserves very high; full of lipids.
  • Mobility improves when live host raised (In vivo).
  • Cold tolerant, isolated from Northern Ontario, actively hunting at 500F (100C).
  • Able to pass through 100 mesh (149 microns).
  • All NIC nematodes carry the same genotype, all hold unsurpassed traits.
  • NIC’s specific inbred line is selected for its superior virulence, productivity and storability.
  • Consistent quality control, i.e. checking each batch microscopically before shipping.
  • Higher bacterial counts as they are bred and raised in an environment full of the optimal bacteria.

It is the bacterium (Photorhabdus luminescens) that is the killing agent!

Controls

  • Entomopathogenic nematodes that kill the larval stage of coleopterous insect pests especially root weevils such as black vine weevil Otiorhynchus sulcatus.

ALL NIC Beneficial Nematodes are North American born and raised.

Production

  • Live Host Raised – “In Vivo”

  • Shipped on a sponge as pure Infective Juveniles (IJ) nematodes.
  • IJ is the only stage of nematode that can infest larvae.
  • No carrying agent.
  • 100% Natural.

Application

  • Can be used in boom sprayers without fear of clogging.

Lifecycle

  • Larvae infested within 48 hours.
  • Larvae killed within 72 hours.
  • Nematodes cycle in 3 to 7 days. IJ emergence with in 12 to 14 days. (Kaya, H.K., and A.M. Koppenhöfer.1999. Biology and Ecology of Insecticidal Nematodes).

 Biocontrol for Beetles

Heterorhabditis bacteriophora is an entomopathogenic nematode that is
naturally occurring and kills the larval stage of coleopterous insect pests
especially root weevils such as black vine weevils, Otiorhynchus sulcatus.

Storage: Upon receipt of product store in a refrigerator at 41OF (50C) or use immediately. Do not freeze. Do not use if incorrectly stored.

Application Needs: Patrol can be applied using common application equipment (including tank sprayers, backpack sprayers and irrigation injection systems).

Packaging: Patrol is available on sponges in 25, 35 and 50 million.

Coverage for Cultivated Area:

  • 25 million covers 1,000 ft2 to 1500 ft2 (93 m2 to 140 m2)
  • 35 million covers 1,500 ft2 to 2,000 ft2 (140 m2 to 186 m2)
  • 50 million covers 2,000 ft2 to 3,000 ft2 (186 m2 to 279 m2)

Strains – North American

  • Isolated in Ontario, Canada.
  • North American Strains.
  • Each strain of nematode carries its own abilities. NIC’s beneficial nematodes have been selected and bred for optimal results.
  • With NIC’s superior bacterial counts you will achieve exceptional efficacy rates!

Visual

  • No residue left on crops.

Second Wave

  • The second generation is when in vivo nematodes noticeably surpass in vitro (In vitro = test tube or bio-reactor produced nematodes).
  • Due to our in vivo nematodes superior bacterial counts they are able to pass on the killing agent Photorhabdus to their progeny. (Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Klausdorfer Str. 28-36, 24223, Raisdorf, Germany).
  • Larger numbers of infective juveniles are created in the cadaver and are able to break free, creating a second wave of control.

Quantity

  • 25, 35 and 50 Million.

Effective Temperature

  • 500F (10 C) to 91.40F (330C).

Guarantee

  • 100% Quantity counts and live effective product.

Produced exclusively by NATURAL INSECT CONTROL

  • Years of producing nematodes – 12 years.
  • Entomologist on Staff – 2 full time.
  • Shipped From – Stevensville, Ontario, Canada.

Patrol: Biocontrol for Beetles

Patrol is a naturally occurring entomopathogenic nematode that kills the larval stage of  Japanese beetle   Patrol contains Heterorhabditis bacteriophora.

Packaging

  • Patrol is available on sponges of 10, 25, 35 and 50 million.

Storage

  • Upon receipt of product, remove from shipping packaging and use immediately or store in a refrigerated area 5oC (40oF).
  • Do not freeze.
  • Do not use if incorrectly stored.
  • Store for a maximum of 12 weeks.

Application and Mixing Instructions

  • PATROL can be applied using common application equipment, including (but not limited to): tank sprayers, backpack sprayers,
irrigation injection systems, hose end sprayers and watering cans.
  • Sponges cannot be sub-divided, however well mixed solution can be portioned.
  • Once nematodes are made into a mixture (see instructions below), use the entire mixture within a 2-hour period.
  • Do not exceed 300 PSI pump pressure.

Recommendation for Japanese Beetle  preventative application

(tables)

  • Ensure the media is moist before applying nematodes. Irrigate if necessary.
  • Empty the package by wringing out sponges 5 to 10 times into a clean container of tepid water to create a nematode solution. Rinse all bags with water to release any nematodes.
  • Create a water + nematode solution mixture (add your nematode solution to additional water) to accommodate the volume you need for even dispersal of the nematodes across the amount of plants / pots you have.
  • Maintain sufficient, gentle agitation during application to prevent nematodes from settling to the bottom of your nematode mixture.
  • Apply a sufficient volume of mixture to wet the top 1 to 1.5” of the growing media.
  • Avoid overwatering your plants to prevent leaching.

Tips for Best Results

  • Ensure that the media is moist before applying nematodes. Irrigate if necessary. Remove all weed barriers before application.
  • Nematodes require moisture to survive; avoid allowing the media to dry out completely following treatment.
  • Media temperatures should not fall below 10oC (50oF) for 14 days following treatment. At media temperatures above 30oC (86oF),
    activity may be reduced.
  • Do not apply in bright sunshine. The best times for application are in dark weather conditions and at night.
  • All fine filters (finer than 100 mesh or with diameters < 0.149mm) must be removed from sprayers, to avoid blocking of nematodes
    during application.
  • When applying nematodes to flood tables or other hydroponic systems, DO NOT release nematodes into system reservoirs. Apply
nematodes directly to root zone by drench.
