Rove Beetles, Dalotia Coriaria (Predator)

Dalotia (formerly Atheta) is a generalist predator that feeds on fungus gnat and shore fly larvae. All stages of Dalotia actively search for prey. Because they can fly, adults can travel through a greenhouse, for distribution and faster population development. The adult beetles and the larvae will mainly search for eggs, young larvae, and pupae.

Adult rove beetles rarely top 25 mm in length. Their elytra are noticeably shortened, though they can fly quite well thanks to functional hindwings tucked carefully underneath.

SHIPPED AS: Adults in peat/vermiculite media.

OPTIMUM CONDTIONS: 21C (70F).

RELEASE RATE: Apply 10 per m.sq. (1 per ft. sq.). Release weekly or biweekly (depending on the greenhouse history of shore flies and fungus gnats)

3000 Breeding System:

This breeding station produces large quantities of beetles over 8 to 12 weeks.  Over this time period, the breeding system makes 10,000 beetles.  The breeding bucket contains media and rove beetle food and rove beetles.  There is no need to add extra media or food to the buckets.  If the greenhouse is dry, an extra 100 to 150 ml of water can be added with a syringe. The bucket can be placed in the greenhouse out of direct sunlight and off the ground to prevent ants from infesting the bucket.
