Would you like to attract bluebirds to your yard? Feeding bluebirds is not as difficult as you may think. In nature they eat a variety of insects, as well as fruits and berries. Bluebirds are hard to attract with bird seed, but they love mealworms (larvae of darkling beetle). Since bluebirds are not the only birds that enjoy eating mealworms, you should use a feeder that allows bluebirds easy access but prevents larger birds such as starlings from gaining access. Many feeders accomplish this by using small openings that bluebirds have no trouble navigating, but other birds find either too small or uninviting.
Our HANDMADE feeder is locally made, a beautiful pine bluebird feeder with bluebirds in mind. A small hole in each end allows entry by bluebirds, chickadees, song sparrows, Orioles and possibly even a Cardinal. The large room can be filled with dried fruits, bluebird treats, mealworms or dehydrated caterpillars. If using live mealworms place in small straight sided glass dish ( at least 1 inch deep ) to prevent mealworms from crawling out. This feeder is designed to be mounted on a post 3.5 to 6 feet off ground.
