Martins are easily attracted to gourds everywhere within their breeding range, not just in the southern United States where they were originally and traditionally used. Unlike metal, plastic, or wooden houses, gourds have range-wide acceptability to martins, even among the west-coast population, which do not have the tradition of colonizing multi-compartment houses. At the extreme northern limit of the martins’ breeding range, in Canada, martins tend to avoid metal houses, probably because they are such poor cold-weather insulators. Why not try a gourd rack system!
The hub lowers and raises without turning while doing nest checks. The pole is made from 2″ square high tensile aluminum and stands 14 feet tall with easy to attach gourd arms. The aluminum hub section of this system can be raised and lowered using a four part rope and pulley system. A gourd can be removed by pulling the hitch pin from the gourd arm or an entire gourd arm with gourd can be lifted off the hub. This system offers three different arm options; Vertical for Super Gourd, Natural and Plastic Gourds, or Horizontal for Troyer Horizontal gourds and/or Vertical Gourds or a Combination with six arm of each type of gourd. The Deluxe gourd rack includes a two-piece 14 foot pole, aluminum ground stake, top perches, rope winder, hub with attached 45 feet of rope with four-part pulley, and 12 aluminum gourd arms with 12 hitch pins. Assembly required and gourds not included.
