Rhagoletts Trap – Use For Apple and Blueberry Maggot, Red & Black Cherry, Walnut Husk Fly
Product #418005
$5.33CAD
The Pherocon AM trap is used to monitor several Rhagoletis insects. Its bright yellow colour acts as a visual lure, while an odour attractant is incorporated into the sticky capture surface, which attracts both male & female flies when they emerge from the ground.
This multi-purpose trap when assembled, provides a double-sided sticky surface for maximum insect adherence.
NOTE: Use Beneficial Nematodes to control maggots (larvae) when they drop into the soil to pupate.
This trap is recommended for all blueberry growers by the C.F.I.A. Use 2-3 traps per growing season.
Features:
Size: double sided 23 cm x 14 cm (9 in x 5 in.)
Baited Lures lasts 5 to 6 weeks
Pest Notes:
Blueberry Maggot, Rhagoletis mendax
The Blueberry maggot is a direct pest of both highbush and lowbush blueberries. There is one generation per year. Adults emerge from overwintering pupae in the soil from late June through early July, depending on local weather conditions and soil moisture.
Monitoring for adult flies with a Rhagoletts trap is the foundation for managing this pest. Place traps in blueberries mid to late June. Traps are monitored at least twice a week through harvest.
American Currant Fruit Fly, Rhagoletis ribicola
The larva, or maggot of the currant fruit fly infests currant and gooseberry fruit. The adults lay eggs in young, green fruit. The larvae feed inside the fruit, and infested fruit drops prematurely. The larvae exit the fallen berries, then pupate and overwinter in the soil.
For this pest, hang Rhagoletts traps in the bush at the same level as the fruit. Check traps twice a week from green fruit through to the first harvest for current fruit flies adults.
