The principal host of the oriental fruit moth are peach, nectarine, apricot, plum, and cherry. However, in Ontario, apples and pears have also been infested when they are grown in proximity to peach orchards. The pest has also been found on quince and almonds. Apples and pears are often heavily infested late in the season when larvae migrate to these fruits after peaches have been harvested.
Pheromone traps can be used to monitor adult activity and determine insecticide application timing. The pheromone traps consist of a lure and a diamond trap. These are ordered separately.
Features:
Pest: The oriental fruit moth is a small moth (about 6-7 mm), with greyish-brown with silvery scales on their wings and underside of forewings is light coloured.
Timing: Place traps in the orchard prior to the anticipated first flight in the spring (late April). Replace traps at the end of the flight period for each generation). Leave traps in the orchard until harvest is completed.
Rate: A minimum of one set of five traps per four hectares is recommended to provide an accurate representation of activity in the field.
